"ROOTS ROCKIN RIDERS" BIKERS' BENEFIT FOR AUTISM ARTICLE FROM UPSTAGE

AREA MUSICIANS BAND TOGETHER TO BENEFIT HARD WORKING
ORGANIZATION WHO HELP PEOPLE WITH AUTISM

Special UpstageMagazine.com Online Only Article

(STIRLING, NJ) -- American Roots Live with Nasty Ned, in association with Flock Promotions, announced today a benefit concert to raise money for the Eden Institute and awareness for autism; Sunday, October 21st at Orphan Annie's, 1255 Valley Rd. in Stirling, NJ.

"Roots Rockin' Riders" Bikers' Benefit for Autism is an all day concert fund raiser featuring some of the areas most popular musical acts. Doors open at 12 noon and music will start at 2pm running until 12 midnight. A $5 minimum donation is requested.

The show, hosted by American Roots Live's Nasty Ned will also feature Nasty Ned & the Dogs, Johnny Charles & the Straight 8 Blues Kings, The Congregation, The Jerry Lanza Band with very special guest, Phil 'n the Blanks, Johnny Thompson, Katmandu and an American Roots Live All Star jam to round out the evening.

The motorcycle community is strongly encouraged to attend as they have proved year after year to be generous supporters of children's charity events put on by Flock Promotions. Preferred parking for motorcycles will be available.

The Eden Institute, a New Jersey-based nonprofit organization, was founded in 1975 with a mission to improve the lives of children and adults with autism and their families. Parents and professionals alike joined together to develop a family oriented, multifaceted program with a well-trained and dedicated faculty. Inherent in Eden's founding was the commitment to provide a cost-effective, community-based alternative to institutionalization and to offer programming that would meet the changing needs of children and adults with autism.

Autism is a complex, lifelong developmental disability that impacts the development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills, the result of a neurological disorder affecting the functioning of the brain.

Autism currently affects an estimated 1 in 150 child births (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2007) and is four times more common in boys than girls. It is found in all racial, ethnic and social groups and its overall incidence is consistent throughout the world. Family income, lifestyle and education do not affect the chance of occurrence.

Children and adults with autism typically have difficulties with verbal and nonverbal communication, social interactions and leisure or play activities. Aggressive or self-injurious behavior may also be present.

There are no medical tests for diagnosing autism, so an accurate diagnosis must be based on observation of the individual's communication, behavior and developmental levels.

No single cause for autism has been identified, but there is general acceptance that abnormalities in brain structure or function are at the root. Brain scans show differences in the shape and structure of the brain in children with autism versus those who do not have autism, and researchers continue to investigate a variety of theories and links. Autism is not a mental illness nor is it caused by bad parenting. Children with autism and related pervasive developmental disabilities are born with the disorder or the potential to develop it.

Your generous support is greatly needed. Please come to Roots Rockin' Riders Bikers Benefit for Autism and do your part while enjoying great music, food and beverage, raffle prizes and 50/50 games.

Flock Promotions of south Jersey is a fully insured event coordinating service run by A.J. and Frankie Scarpa. Frankie Scarpa, a talented artesian and carver and wife A.J. have had a special interest in raising money for the Eden Institute and awareness for autism for five years.

AMERICAN ROOTS LIVE WITH NASTY NED ARL REVIEW 76 BY NASTY NED

ARL Roots Review 76

American Roots LIVE with Nasty Ned...

there is absolutely no other show like it anywhere!

Don't be fooled by imitations.

American Roots Live is not a typical open mic or open jam. It's not some casual effort by a part time musician to plug in and make some noise. American Roots Live is a legitimate show in a legitimate music room, not some neighborhood shot & beer joint - it's the longest running of its kind - and it stands for roots music preservation.

ARL is an equal opportunity celebration of the music. It's for passing the torch to the next generation in an effort to keep the fire burning AND to create an outlet for players to play and network as the "live" music scene is shrinking... and venues are dying off one by one...

American Roots Live appreciates and recognizes the contributions of its participants. ARL puts everyone in the spotlight making everybody an All Star. Every participant is invited to sign the ARL all stars autographed guitar. And ARL puts every one's name in print right here in our weekly roots reviews.

American Roots Live also has official photographers and is the only show of its kind where you can perform one week - come back the next week and possibly take home a beautiful color print of your performance the week before - for free!

American Roots Live doesn't just have its hand out for the sake of gathering donations. ARL, now approaching its 77th week, passes the bucket to keep the show going and always gives something back to the people. Fans and players alike win music CDs, harmonicas, T shirts and other great prizes each week. Last night we gave away Delbert McClinton and a number of Elmore Magazine CD samplers featuring John Mayall, Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, Roy Orbison and more. In previous weeks; the Allman Brothers, Al Green, Muddy Waters, Aretha Franklin, 25 Years of R&B, 25 Years of Soul, T Bone Walker, BB King, lots of great new music CDs from our many All Stars and on and on.

American Roots Live is where you have a chance to take home autographed guitars. We've given away two so far and our third guitar give-away happens November 1. Tickets are still available, but going fast so hurry out for your chance to take home the Austin electric strat autographed by so many: Nasty Ned, John Powers, Johnny Charles, Jamo Flynn, Lee Fink, Phoenix Arizona's HoneyBoy Dupree, Bob DelRosso, Arne Englund, Rob Fraser, Gene Goodman, Dean Schot, Pinky Mendez, members of the Congregation, members of Cleaver June, Mimi Nowak, Roy Macnamara, Nancy Coletti, Lori V, Hershall Dow, Ron Michaels, north Georgia's Smokestack the Foothill Fury, Toronto Canada's Vanderpark, Covington Kentucky's Fickle and many, many, many more.

You do not have to be present to win!

Yep, never be fooled by imitations. There is only one American Roots Live. It's Thursdays and Sundays at Orphan Annie's and it's hosted by yours truly. There really is no other show like it anywhere - on any night, guaranteed.

ARL 76's playlist read: JR Bradfield, Mimi Nowak, Ed Pampani, Len DePiano, Bones Sanford, Rotten Robert, Carlo Trentacosta, Robert Zee, Randy Marinelli, Mordecai, Hershall Dow, Keith Autocunas, Lisa Batruch, Jerry Lanza, Roy Macnamara, Mike Carroll, Dave Frant, Gene Gagliardi, Ed Avilia, Doug Deittmann, Carl Marcantonio, Rich Koerner, Jim Sventy, Pinky Mendez, Bob DelRosso, Larry Lip, Tommy Toye, Sticks Obremski, Al Marchitto, Nick Lavirtano, and Frank Cerulli. That's 32 musicians and singers coming together on one stage in the name of the music - awesome. Oh, and adding me is 33.

Thanks to all who make ARL a "one of a kind" - Orphan Annie's, Rick, Karin, Ashley, JR Bradfield, John Powers and Win and Ed for the photos.

If you read and enjoy these Roots Reviews, please email me here let me know who you are. Please let me know if you have any suggestions to make this page OR our show better or just to say hello. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.

See you real soon.

Keeping it real,

Ned
